Whereas today, heavy metal is a niche subgenre, in the 1980s, it was simply the soundtrack to life. Distorted guitar riffs,crystalline synths, and searing vocal theatrics permeated the atmosphere of a society steeped in cocaine, crime, and consumerism. While many bands emulate the sound of 80s hard rock and heavy metal, few are capable of conjuring the charged aesthetic context out of which that musical style emerged. Australia’s Danger seeks to do just that by drawing upon films that defined the era. To that end, for their debut demo, “Cobretti,” the band drew inspiration from “Cobra,” the 1986 film starring Sylvester Stallone as Lt. Marion "Cobra" Cobretti—a rogue LAPD cop who operates in a liminal vigilante space just outside the bounds of the law, breaking rules to preserve the social order in the face of urban decay and rampant criminality. The two songs featured on the “Cobretti” demo are part of a reimagined soundtrack, the remainder of which will appear on Danger’s upcoming MLP vinyl debut on NWN! later this year.
