Originally released in 2006 on CD, this split finally receives its first vinyl pressing via Bestial Rape Records: a double heavyweight 12” LP housed in a gatefold jacket. Features new cover art by Abomination Hammer, and includes bonus tracks from both bands. Limited first pressing of 500 copies — 250 white/black marble and 250 black vinyl.

This split stands out for the stark contrast between Sapthuran and Leviathan, each presenting a distinct approach to black metal that still works cohesively across one release. Both acts lean toward melodic structures, with layered guitars and restrained use of atmosphere; Leviathan incorporates subtle keyboards throughout. Sapthuran opens the record with raw, wind-laced tracks built on minimal guitar lines, primitive but effective drumming, and cavernous, ritualistic vocals. The production is intentionally sparse, evoking isolation and ancient wilderness. Acoustic passages and recurring motifs give their side a consistent, primeval character. Leviathan follows with some of Wrest’s most aggressive and fully realized material of the era. The intro builds tension through harsh ambient noise before erupting into blasting drums and heavily distorted guitars — notably performed with live percussion rather than programmed drums. Vocals are more guttural and direct than on earlier releases. Tracks shift between relentless speed, mid-tempo weight, and stripped-down minimalism, with clean guitar and ambient sections used to close or contrast the chaos. Highlights include “The Fourth Blind Wound” and “Crushing The Prolapsed Oviducts of Virtue,” both balancing melody with brutality. Overall, this is a strong and uncommon pairing that showcases two very different interpretations of black metal without feeling disjointed. A worthwhile acquisition, especially in this limited vinyl format.
