"Those Once Mighty Fallen" is a split that was originally released in 2013 on Osmose Productions and now reissued again on vinyl by NWN as part of the ildjarn reissue campaign. Musically, not much needs to be said about both bands since they're both very well known in the underground.

At the time of its initial release it was shrouded in mystery and confusion, and much of that still remains, but some of the fog had subsided (at least a little!) after Nidhogg's public statement on Youtube.  What is clear now is that the songs are actually Nidhogg's original compositions from 1994 that were later used by ildjarn, perhaps out of confusion for who had written the songs since they were close collaborators at the time, and both had written primitive minimalist black metal. Here's Nidhogg in his own words: 

"iLDjARN has confirmed to me that there's been a mix-up in regards to the source-material for the split. The songs are my original compositions in their entirety, though uncredited.  Old tapes have been floating around . There is no quarrell between me and iLDjARN regarding this, it's a matter between him and OSMOSE." 

Unfortunately ildjarn has not made any public statements regarding this release so we may never know the exact origin of this recording. Nidhogg does not seem to have been bothered by the misattribution, but we thought it would be appropriate to include his name this time. Regardless of the confusion around its origin or song writer, it remains one of the best recordings of Folkloric Necro Metal!
