The 5th demo of this Kib Sreng's (Black Abyss, Prison Hell, Tsalal, ex-Antediluvian) project. Brulvahnatu is where this true music genious shines the most however, and manages to come with some of Extreme Metal's most bizarre, brilliant and seemingly unhinged explorations. In "At War" the sound of Brulvahnatu was still far from the eccentric, experimental Black/Death that it would became most known for later. Rather this is a more primitive and stripped down work, but still experimental in nature and absolutely unique. With a rawer production, and almost completely devoid of the Death Metal factor, "At War" is a rather bleak and haunting mix of primitive Black Metal atmospheres, sometimes even Xasthurian in their dungeon-y depressive tone, with elements of Post-Punk, Industrial or even Krautrock. I could be completely missing here as this is hard to define, but nonetheless it is an absolutely brilliant record, with a haunting, dissociating atmosphere that would envy most Raw Black Metal bands. The war is in your mind.
